Heather Mills McCartney Wants You to Buy Cruelty-Free—Find Out Why!

Thank You for Your Interest in Shopping Cruelty-Free!

Lady Heather Mills McCartney, who stars in PETA’s latest ad encouraging people to become caring consumers, is dedicated to promoting cruelty-free living worldwide.

A PETA Humanitarian Award recipient, Mills McCartney graced the cover of PETA’s 2004 Shopping Guide for Caring Consumers and for years has helped PETA expose the senseless cruelty of the fur trade.

Now she’s asking consumers to support the more than 500 companies that have committed, in writing, to never testing any ingredients or finished products on animals and to boycotting companies that subject animals to painful, unnecessary tests.

Why Cruelty-Free?

Cruelty-free companies assure consumers of their products’ safety through modern, accurate non-animal tests. Human cell cultures and tissue studies (in vitro tests) and artificial human “skin” and “eyes,” for example, mimic the body’s natural properties. Numerous computer virtual organs also serve as accurate models of human body parts. You’ll find companies that utilize reliable, non-animal tests on our “don’t test” list.

Companies That Test on Animals

Other companies, however, haven’t updated their product-testing methods since the 1920s; these methods are less accurate and extremely cruel to animals. Companies force large amounts of substances into animals’ stomachs, drip chemicals into their eyes, and worse. Making these painful tests even more tragic is the fact that they are useless—they often produce inaccurate results and are not required by law. You’ll find companies that hurt animals on our “do test” list; please write to them and ask them to stop.
