Legally Blonde Costar Jennifer Coolidge Pipes Up for PETA

"If you're using cosmetics tested on animals, it's time for a makeover," says Legally Blonde funny lady Jennifer Coolidge, who graces the cover of PETA's popular "Cruelty-Free Shopping Guide." The pocket-sized guide, available from PETA for free, lists hundreds of companies—including Revlon, Bath & Body Works, Estée Lauder, Hard Candy, Bobbi Brown, M.A.C., and Tommy Hilfiger—that test their products for safety without cruel tests on animals.

Coolidge—who's also known for her hilarious roles in American Pie, A Mighty Wind, and Best in Show—is serious when it comes to her love for animals. In fact, animal rights was the central theme in the summer blockbuster Legally Blonde 2—just released on DVD—in which Coolidge plays Reese Witherspoon's wacky cosmetologist sidekick. Together they go to Washington to campaign for a ban on cosmetics tests on animals, and in one scene, Witherspoon's character walks into a beauty salon and announces that she'd called ahead of time to ensure that the salon used "PETA-approved products."

Testing products on animals—which involves blinding rabbits and poisoning rabbits, guinea pigs, and other animals—is still legal, and some big-name companies, like Procter & Gamble, Unilever, and Johnson & Johnson, should be avoided because they continue to use and abuse animals in their cruel product tests.
